Castrol Malaysia announced that it will be sponsoring two young riders in the WIRA category at this year’s Malaysian Cub Prix Championship under their Castrol POWER1 flagship brand. The lubricant brand from the international energy group BP has been consistently at the forefront of global motorsports since the early 1900s, and this latest initiative indicates not only a continuation of Castrol’s research & development efforts of using bike sponsorships to push boundaries and improve products, but also encouraging young and talented riders in line with the company’s strong motorsports heritage.
Dating back to May 1994, the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship is an annual national-level motorcycle racing series with displacements from 100cc to 150cc. The championship began as a grassroot movement to develop professional motorcycle racing in Malaysia, and today provides a platform for discovering and developing Malaysian motorcycle racing talents in a nationally-acclaimed organized event. The WIRA category was introduced in 2002 and is an age-restricted class for riders aged between 13 – 17 years.
The two Castrol sponsored riders are Muhammad Harith Haziq bin Zamri and Allan Harris bin Herman. Both are aged 16 and participated in the 2018 and 2019 Malaysian Cub Prix Championships, attaining respectable placings in the overall standings. The duo has also participated in other notable races such as the Malaysian Superbike Championship and the Asia Road Racing Championship to gain greater exposure. “We are very excited to be part of Team Castrol this year. Thank you for believing in us and giving us the confidence to go out there and show everyone what we can do,” said Harith. “This is the first time we’re racing on Team Castrol, and it’s been nothing but a positive experience so far. Looking forward to winning!” said Allan with a wide grin.
Castrol has a celebrated heritage in the world of motorsports globally. With this latest sponsorship initiative, the company hopes to be more active in the local motorsports scene while connecting with young enthusiasts of the sport. “Our history dates all the way back to the very beginnings of racing at the Isle of Man TT in 1907 through to the powerful bikes in today’s MotoGP series,” said Keow Mei-Shan, Marketing Director, Malaysia & Singapore. “We are very proud of our heritage in motorcycle racing, and as one of the leading lubricant brands in the country, we would like to encourage up-and-coming talents to pursue their passion through proper and professional avenues,” she continued.
Castrol POWER1 offers a wide range of products to both motorcycles and scooters, and consists of the Castrol POWER1 Racing, Castrol POWER1 and Castrol POWER1 Scooter brands.
